Коллективный проект: Digiluck

This work was developed during 2007 and first presented as part of the "Electroboutique" exhibition in a gallery in Moscow in the same year.

The basic idea of Digiluck is inspired by the Japanese conceptualist On Kawara who presents in his works (mostly paintings) various, probably indefinite dates (DD/MM/YY).

In contrast, Digiluck questions the obvious coincidence and chance in combinations of numbers displayed in the manner of time. When an electronic clock displays such digit combinations as 11:11, 22:22, 3:33, etc, one involuntary starts thinking about some significant fortuity. But how could one turn this fortuity into desired regularity? Can one catch good luck?

Digiluck deconstructs the electronic clock by displaying nine pre-rendered animations in random order instead of searching for lucky numbers. Thus the work does not tell what luck is or how it can be, but just rethinks the notion of time as taken for a norm conventionality.

Digiluck has been created in the form of a plug-and-play device and in accordance with the concept of “Media Art 2.0”, which was manifested by the Electroboutique artistic team when the project was presented at Transmediale 2008 festival in Berlin.

In summer 2008 Lars Gustav Midbøe, executive director of Atelier Nord initiated a negotiation about the creation of an outdoor version of Digiluck. The following winter I signed a contract with Atelier Nord to create and install Digiluck in Oslo.

Digiluck represents the first public art work within the scope of my current artistic practice. It therefore raises questions concerning the parameters of the object; placement in the city, scale/dimensions, technical concerns and the ability to withstand the outside elements.
With regards to placement, I was initially guided by photos sent to me as suggestions of potential, inner city locations for Digiluck.
